Gartner’s newest research highlights four 2021 Cool Vendors in Storage and Hybrid Infrastructure that offer innovative alternatives in the marketplace.
Analyst house Gartner, Inc. has released its newest research highlighting four emerging solution providers that infrastructure and operations (I&O) leaders should consider when modernizing and updating their technology. The 2021 Cool Vendors in Storage and Hybrid Infrastructure report features information on startups that offer some disruptive capability or opportunity not common to the marketplace. Gartner analysts Jerry Rozeman, Arun Chandrasekaran, Julia Palmer, Jeffrey Hewitt, and Jeff Vogel compiled the materials for this report.
Solutions Review’s editors have read the complete report, which is available here, and want to take the opportunity to provide a brief, independent introduction to each of the cool vendors listed. Though Gartner’s process for selecting Cool Vendors is somewhat mysterious, we believe our unique view of the space can help you to better understand how these solutions will fit into the marketplace as time goes on.
Arrikto offers two enterprise solutions: Enterprise Kubeflow and Rok Data Management. Enterprise Kubeflow is a commercially supported MLOps tool designed to simplify reproducibility, model portability, data lineage, and the security of machine learning models. Rok Data Management enables businesses to run stateful containerized machine learning applications over high-performance NVMe storage. Additionally, the vendor enables IT leaders to snapshot an entire ML model and distribute across machines in the same cluster and across heterogeneous environments.
Hammerspace provides a global file system spanning across on-prem and multiple public cloud providers to deliver data to every application, regardless of where it runs. The Hammerspace Global File System is made up of two main elements: MetaData Services, which runs as a global back-end service across cloud and on-prem deployments; and Data Services, which delivers storage, protection, data abstraction, lifecycle management, replication, deduplication, compression, and connectivity to the public cloud. This technology makes the vendor a good fit for I&O professionals in need of elastic, scalable global file services that deliver hybrid cloud connectivity and advanced global data services.
Model9 helps IT leaders get rid of costly mainframe tape backup systems, as well as the associated software licenses, while transferring backup data management to cloud storage. The vendor’s software-only backup and recovery solution, Cloud Data Manager for Mainframe, runs standard mainframe backup and recovery operations to any IP-enabled storage device, making mainframe-specific infrastructure solutions unnecessary. Model9’s software also enables IT professionals to migrate backup data into a hybrid cloud environment to support new use cases for reuse of data.
ScaleFlux delivers data compression, decompression, and data filtering to computational-storage flash drives (CSDs) that offer high capacity and strong performance. The ScaleFlux CSD 2000 Series data path compression/decompression engines allow the drive to store more data per GB of available flash space, while maintaining performance levels, regardless of the read/write mix. While other compression platforms require modifications to the application, the solution from ScaleFlux is transparent and does not need application integration. These features make the solution suitable for I&O leaders on the hunt for an infrastructure solution for IoT edge, hyperconverged infrastructure, latency-sensitive databases, and big data/analysis use cases.
